The Story of My Drum

I was introduced to drumming and rattling in the spring of 2008 by dear friends.  I was a little shy about it at first, but I soon learned to relax and enjoy the beat!  It was not long before my drum made it's way to me...

On August 8, 2008 I was introduced to indigenous ceremony at a screening of the movie The 8th Fire.  It was the first time I had ever heard the term Rainbow Warrier, or understood that you could connect to yourself through Mother Earth.

I met a beautiful lady who's drum was painted and when I asked her about it, she explained that it was her story that she had painted on her drum.  I was very moved to share my story in that way...

Sun:  The Creator of all that is
Eagle: Love
Bear: Courage
Beaver: Intelligence
Owl: Wisdom
Swan: Grace
Butterfly: Transformation
Turtle: Truth
Rainbow: Hope

God, The Creator as represented by the sun, sent the Eagle to guide me with love and strength along my journey through many mountains and across raging rivers.  God sent Bear to give me the courage to go on, even when I was afraid.  He also sent Beaver for the intelligence needed to find the gifts that he had left for me, along the path that I would walk.  God sent me Owl for the wisdom required to understand the gifts, so that I could use them to help others find their path.  God sent me Swan, so that I might learn my lessons and how to pass them along with grace.  He sent me Butterfly so that I could use my journey and it's teachings to transform myself in body, mind and spirit on the way to the truth... to My Truth, as represented by Turtle.  God sent me Rainbow, so that I would never lose sight of hope as I made my way through the mountains of my journey... helping me to believe what beauty and truth could be found at the end of the rainbow.

As time goes on, the relationships and meanings continue to deepen... offering more lessons on the journey of healing and self discovery.

Love and Light,
Pamela
